Critical Creative Reflections
1. How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues? My project commented on the resurgence of physical media. It discussed why we are seeing an increase in these products in recent years. It analyzed the growing trend of consumers turning back to physical media in recent years. This change was credited to the economic crisis, showing how physical media offers authenticity and identity. Additionally, the project examined how this resurgence can represent different social groups. For example, older generations are rejecting digital media because it is unfamiliar to them. This project analyzed overall the use of physical media and how it affects all social groups.
2. How does your product engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text? My product would start a discussion on physical media and capitalism. My product provides research on the issue and how it's affecting people and communities. It would be distributed as a digital magazine, and the audience would be able to comment and discuss in a comment section.
3. How did your production skills develop throughout this project? Throughout this project, my production skills have improved. From having little skills, I grew to have more of an understanding of programs like Wix and InDesign. Completing the preliminary tasks gave me insight on what I was expected to learn and do to complete this project. The activities that focused on involved us in trial running the programs helped me become familiar with them. When we did an activity focused on InDesign, it helped me become familiar with the tools I would be using when creating my magazine.
4. How did you integrate technologies- software, hardware and online in this project? Online tools helped me navigate this project. Having access to online platforms for reference when I needed to figure out how to get my desired outcome was crucial for this project. Since this is my first time using programs like Wix and InDesign, having tutorials to guide me through this project helped me get through it. Having tutorials posted on Canvas helped me navigate through this project.
